Amelie O - “Maths is language and Physics is Literature “, beautiful words from a remarkable Man. Mr Murphy is the best thing I remember from my four years at Runnymede. A towering personality he coached me not just in Physics but even in improving my Basketball. Sometime in 1985, I had once had a fight with Marco C. and we ended up breaking a window. Mr Murphy was as cool as possible about it, he just said that the window had to be replaced by us at our cost within 24 hours. We did it and it was business as usual. May God give Peace to his eternal soul.

Arty V - Sad news for my Runnymede College school mates around the world. Our form teacher and close family friend Frank Murphy (forever Mr. Murphy) has suffered a severe brain haemorrage and is on life support only to fulfil his wish to donate his organs.
An example to all of us as a teacher and person - integrity, kindness, friendship, eloquence, wit, humor and a sharp mind are just some adjectives that come to mind.... and of course generosity! With all of us, his "little people" and now even in his last living moments with a selfless act. I hope the recipients enjoy a good long life and to Mr. Murphy I lift my glass and toast (I'll have to get hold of his favourite "proper" Irish whiskey). My eternal gratitude to you. To us you left the best part of you. You made the world a better place (and more understandable) to many little people!

I wasn’t as lucky to be actually be taught by you, but it always baffled me how you managed to remember every single student’s name, who was in who’s class, who was who’s sibling… In the last 10 years I was lucky to run into you in our shared neighborhood of Retiro, and I continued to be baffled, as you never failed to remember my name, ask about my parents and brothers, or wonder if I still kept in touch with such and such classmates, some 25 years after we graduated. And so, just like the law of conservation of energy, where energy can neither be created nor destroyed - only converted, your energy will remain among all those who were fortunate to have met you. God speed!

Esteban Z - Awesome teacher, no matter what our individual abilities were, he always pushed us to be our best.
Had classes with him in the early 80s - not sure if he ever changed but at that time he had a thick accent (you could tease him by asking if it was Scottish), was always full of stories and sports references. So many great stories, but two favorites were related to his time in Africa - having to iron his clothes in the AM get rid of any critters that may have crawled in overnight; and hunger relief services arriving and promptly looking for their dinner.
He will be missed and never forgotten.

Licia D - It is hard to describe the subtle yet powerful influence Mr Murphy had on me and my career choices. I definitely struggled with further maths in school and yet he was always a firm believer in my abilities. Later on at Uni, I would sometimes ask him for help with my maths problems and he would take the time to read them over and help me solve them. When I hit the first milestones in my academic career I would always think of Mr Murphy and again, email him with the good news. I have never worked with a science teacher with such an in depth knowledge, passion for his subject, and ability to reach out to his beloved students. An exceptional teacher! Also, in those times he was the soul of Runnymede, his was the guiding hand on the till, with his wisdom and gentle Irish humour he touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and families.

A life lesson I always remember he gave one of those hot summer afternoons at 4pm in Arga: If you take a punch in the face and heroically stand for it you’ll have to cope with all the force vector at once. If you roll down to the ground with the punch instead, as in the movies, then you will be able to minimize it and stand up again to fight back.
It was much more than Physics.

Tariq A - This is a very sad time for all Runnymedians who loved Mr. Murphy. To me he was the best teacher I have ever had, his sense of humour, kindness, willingness to go over any problem repeatedly changed my attitute towards maths and physics. Godspeed Mr. Murphy and "May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."
Terrell M - He wanted to teach us for the sake of the knowledge, not to pass exams which was really admirable. I remember him teaching us all about quarks and the strong nuclear force when it wasn't on the syllabus. I wouldn't have studied Physics if it weren't for him which completely defined my career path. One day we asked him what he would do if he had one day left to live on Earth and he said he would get up and go teach like he does every day. RIP Mr Murphy!
