I wasn’t as lucky to be actually be taught by you, but it always baffled me how you managed to remember every single student’s name, who was in who’s class, who was who’s sibling… In the last 10 years I was lucky to run into you in our shared neighborhood of Retiro, and I continued to be baffled, as you never failed to remember my name, ask about my parents and brothers, or wonder if I still kept in touch with such and such classmates, some 25 years after we graduated. And so, just like the law of conservation of energy, where energy can neither be created nor destroyed - only converted, your energy will remain among all those who were fortunate to have met you. God speed!

Emilio Amico - Back in the early 90s I had the special experience of working alongside Frank, even being allowed to share the teaching of physics with him! I have never worked with a science teacher with such an in depth knowledge, passion for his subject, and ability to reach out to his beloved students. An exceptional teacher! Also, in those times he was the soul of Runnymede, his was the guiding hand on the till, with his wisdom and gentle Irish humour he touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and families.
Rick Armstrong - I’m so very sad to see Mr. Murphy go. I still have engraved in my mind many teachings I learnt from him, even 16 years after my graduation from Runnymede. He is probably the best teacher I have had in all my academic life. He will be very missed and remembered.
Gorka Arrechea - RIP Mr Murphy. So much more than our Physics (and on occasions reluctant substitute Maths) teacher... His life lessons were profound, impactful and unwaveringly true. 20 years after our graduation from Runnymede and I still often remember many of his catch phrases. What an extraordinary man. Asun Arzola - Frank Murphy, a key figure in our Runnymede’s history. His teaching has crossed many borders, in fact here I am writing from my hometown Caracas in Venezuela remembering those days so long ago in Madrid at the house at Arga street where the school used to be. I will never forget Mr. Murphy´s voice, his beard and somehow long hair for those days, and how he managed to teach us some discipline rules in a kind way. Thank you, Mr. Murphy! I am sure you are flying free!
Marisela Ascanio - One of my most inspiring teachers whose life learnings we continue to share today with our children. May his soul rest in peace.
Rania Attar - My deepest condolences to his family and all Runnymedians. A man of great integrity, common sense, and smart humor. A life lesson I always remember he gave one of those hot summer afternoons at 4pm in Arga: If you take a punch in the face and heroically stand for it you’ll have to cope with all the force vector at once. If you roll down to the ground with the punch instead, as in the movies, then you will be able to minimize it and stand up again to fight back.
It was much more than Physics.

Neven Blaskovic - Sad news for my Runnymede College school mates around the world. Our form teacher and close family friend Frank Murphy (forever Mr. Murphy) has suffered a severe brain haemorrage and is on life support only to fulfil his wish to donate his organs.
An example to all of us as a teacher and person - integrity, kindness, friendship, eloquence, wit, humor and a sharp mind are just some adjectives that come to mind.... and of course generosity! With all of us, his "little people" and now even in his last living moments with a selfless act. I hope the recipients enjoy a good long life and to Mr. Murphy I lift my glass and toast (I'll have to get hold of his favourite "proper" Irish whiskey). My eternal gratitude to you. To us you left the best part of you. You made the world a better place (and more understandable) to many little people!

I definitely struggled with further maths in school and yet he was always a firm believer in my abilities. Later on at Uni, I would sometimes ask him for help with my maths problems and he would take the time to read them over and help me solve them. When I hit the first milestones in my academic career I would always think of Mr Murphy and again, email him with the good news. I will truly miss our email exchanges and having the privilege of discussing physics with him. He will be truly missed.

Manuel Muñiz - Mr Murphy represented the figure of a mentor during my adolsecence putting light when guidance was required, always with a sweet point of irony. Had classes with him in the early 80s - not sure if he ever changed but at that time he had a thick accent (you could tease him by asking if it was Scottish), was always full of stories and sports references. So many great stories, but two favorites were related to his time in Africa - having to iron his clothes in the AM get rid of any critters that may have crawled in overnight; and hunger relief services arriving and promptly looking for their dinner.
He will be missed and never forgotten.
